My Story

Newmarket isn’t just where I live- it is where I have built my life, raised my family and created memories to last a lifetime.

I moved to Newmarket in 1990 and I have been proud to call Ward 2 home since 1997.  I am of four children, and I was raised by a single mother. We grew up in subsidized housing, and there were no food banks available to families like ours at the time. Those early experiences taught me the value of hard work, compassion, community and never forgetting where I came from.

I have been married for 38 years, and I have owned and operated my own business.  Owning my own business has taught me how to listen, solve problems, make difficult decisions, manage responsibly and, most importantly, work with people from all walks of life.

Giving back to my community has always been important to me.  I coached minor hockey and have supported many charities that have a personal meaning to me because of my own life experiences.

I have had a lifelong passion for politics and local government. That passion led to a friendship with Dave Kerwin, who represented Ward 2 for 39 years. Dave and I shared a similar vision for our community and often talked about how we could make Newmarket an even better place to live.

Why I Am Running

After 35 years in business, I believe the time is right for a new chapter. I want to take the experience and knowledge I have gained and put it to work for the people of Ward 2. I am running because I believe local government should listen, be accountable, and put the community first. Together we can build on what makes Ward 2 special and continues making Newmarket a great place to live, and work.

It is time for me to give back to the community that has given my family so much. I believe our community deserves a strong, approachable voice at Council – someone who listens, works hard, and is willing and able to bring people together to get things done.

I want to help keep Newmarket a great place to live, while making sure we plan responsibly for the future. I am committed to listening to residents, to being accessible, and to focusing on the issues that matter most to our families, seniors, businesses and our community.

Below are the changes/ideas I would like to work on:

Keep snow off boulevards in school zones to improve visibility and child safety 

More accessible parking and better accessibility throughout our community 

Install rumble strips and narrow speed bumps in Community safety zones to slow traffic and keep pedestrians and children safe

Hold council meetings in the evening so more residents can attend and have their voices heard

With all the development in ward 2, I want to make sure our community benefits from the growth and density 

“What are developers contributing and how can we ensure Ward 2 residents see improvements?”

Bring a splash pad to College Manor so local families have a safe , fun place to enjoy close to home

Eliminate tree removal permits for homeowners while continuing to protect our tree canopy

I believe we need transparency on the storm water charge – residents deserve to know exactly where their money is going
